Connecting a fiber optic cable and router to a wireless network

You connect a fiber optic cable to a wireless router by first linking it to an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and then using an Ethernet cable from the ONT to the router's WAN port.

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Equipment

Step 2: Install the ONT

3. Power on the ONT and wait for the status lights to stabilize, usually 2–5 minutes .

Step 3: Connect the ONT to Your Router

1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the ONT's LAN/Ethernet port to the WAN/Internet port on your wireless router .
2. Power on the router and wait for the indicator lights to confirm a successful connection .

Step 4: Configure Your Router

1. Access the router's configuration interface via a web browser (commonly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), .
2. Follow the setup wizard to configure your Wi-Fi network, including SSID and password .
3. Enable optional settings like Quality of Service (QoS) if you use VoIP or video streaming frequently .

Step 5: Verify the Connection

• Check that all cables are securely connected and that the ONT and router lights indicate proper operation .
