An Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a high-speed fiber optic cable used in data centers to connect servers, switches, and storage devices, providing long-distance, high-bandwidth, and low-latency data transmission.

What is an AOC?

An Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a fiber optic cable with integrated optical transceivers at both ends that convert electrical signals into optical signals for transmission and then back into electrical signals at the receiving end . This allows AOCs to transmit data at very high speeds, ranging from 10 Gbps up to 100G, 400G, or more, while maintaining signal integrity over longer distances than traditional copper cables . Unlike passive copper cables, AOCs are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and experience minimal signal degradation over distance .
