Project Overview

Bayobab, formerly known as MTN GlobalConnect, is leading the initiative to enhance South Sudan's digital infrastructure by deploying a nationwide fiber optic network. The project aims to provide affordable and reliable internet access, strengthen connectivity, and support the country's digital transformation plans . Bayobab has extensive experience in Africa, with a proprietary terrestrial fiber network of 114,000 km and plans to expand by another 135,000 km by 2025 .

Government Involvement and Funding

The South Sudanese government has allocated $9 million for the design phase of the fiber optic project, which includes selecting companies and experts to design and implement the network . Contracts for the design and deployment were scheduled to be signed in July 2025, marking the official start of the project's implementation phase .
