  • The front of the label should display the optical path name, and the back should show the optical path code and barcode. Labels should be uniform, correctly spaced, and not overlap .

Splicing and Termination

  • If fusion splicing is required, use splice trays or chips to protect and organize fiber splices .
  • For direct termination, ensure proper alignment with fiber adapters (couplers) to maintain low insertion loss and high return loss .

Testing and Verification

  • After patching, test each segment using an optical power meter at 1490nm. Acceptable power levels are less than -22dB at the splitter exit and less than -23dB at the user end .
  • If no light is detected, use a visible light source (red light) to check for misconnections. Persistent issues should be escalated to the cable maintenance team .
