Types of Fiber Terminal Boxes

Fiber terminal boxes or socket panels are designed to manage fiber connections efficiently. Examples include:

  • 2-core SC wall outlet panels: Provide two SC fiber interfaces, suitable for small home or office setups .
  • Mini distribution boxes (SP-1601-2C-2): Compact enclosures for connecting drop cables to ONUs in FTTX networks, ideal for indoor environments like communications closets . These panels often support multiple cable diameters (2mm, 3mm, or 2x3mm) and include accessories like heat shrinkable sleeves and expansion screws for secure installation .

Integration with Network Ports

To combine fiber optic connections with traditional network ports:

  1. Terminate the fiber at the wall socket using SC or LC connectors.
  2. Connect the pigtail from the wall socket to the ONT or media converter.
  3. Use Ethernet ports on the ONT to link to your network switch or router, providing standard LAN connectivity.
  4. Optional fiber-to-Ethernet converters can be used if direct fiber LAN ports are not available. Proper installation ensures minimal signal loss and maintains the high performance of FTTH or LAN networks .

Installation Tips

  • Mount the back box securely in a wall opening.
  • Strip and clean the fiber cable carefully to avoid damage.
  • Use APC connectors for GPON networks to reduce reflection loss (-60dB) or UPC connectors for general LAN applications (-50dB), .
  • Manage slack fiber neatly in the back box to prevent bends and maintain signal integrity. By selecting the appropriate fiber wall plate or terminal box and following proper installation procedures, you can integrate fiber optic cables with network ports effectively, ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity for homes or offices .
